What are anti-wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections use a purified protein called botulinum toxin (most people know it by the brand name Botox) to relax the small facial muscles that cause expression lines. When those muscles relax, the skin above them smooths out and lines soften.
The most common areas are the horizontal lines across the forehead, the frown lines between the eyebrows and the crow’s feet around the eyes. Other areas can be treated too, and we’re happy to talk these through with you.
Botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medicine in the UK, so we always carry out a consultation and assessment before agreeing any treatment.
What to expect at your appointment
We start by talking through your concerns and looking at how your face moves, then agree a plan together. The injections themselves take around 10 to 15 minutes. The needles are extremely fine and most clients say it feels like a small scratch, so numbing cream isn’t usually needed.
There’s no real downtime either. You can get on with your day straight away, although we’d advise avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol and lying flat for the first few hours, and try not to rub the treated area for 24 hours.
You’ll start to see a difference within 3 to 5 days, with the full result at around two weeks. It typically lasts 3 to 6 months, and once movement returns the treatment can simply be repeated.
